First International Festival of Contemporary Sculpture is opened in Kyiv<\/div>

Kyiv Sculpture Project, the First International Festival of Contemporary Sculpture in Ukraine runs in the National Botanical Garden after M. M. Gryshko from June 2 until 2 July 2012.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

One of the most popular and picturesque venues of Ukraine’s capital will stage two parallel projects: the display of works by the finalists of the contemporary sculpture contest and, in the Special Project, sculptures by eminent artists of the XX-XXI century, exhibited in Ukraine for the first time.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The founder of the festival is Spilna Meta Foundation and the festival curators<\/p>\n

Kadygrob& Taylor Art Projects were inspired by Yorkshire Sculpture Park, the largest Sculpture Park in Europe who has became the partner of KSP 2012.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Main Project presents works by fifteen sculptors from Ukraine, Great Britain, Australia, Russia, Poland and the Netherlands. Ukraine is represented by nine artists and art groups: OleksiiZolotariov, StepanRiabchenko, Anna Naduda, Oleksiy Say, ubik. group, ZhannaKadyrova, KaterynaBuchatska, GREVIS group and DobryniaIvanov. Foreign participants of KSP include Karin van der Molen (The Netherlands), Sally Kidall (Australia), Colin Rose (United Kingdom), Pprofessors group (Russia), KamilaSzejnoch (Poland) and Rachel Carter (United Kingdom).<\/p>\n

Fifteen sculptors in the Main Project will compete for the Main Prize (6.000 euro). There is also the Special Prize (3.000 euro), the Prize for the Best Young Ukrainian Artist (practice at the studio of a leading sculptor), Special Prize from Yorkshire Sculpture Park (residency at YSP), the \"Best Ukrainian Artist\" nomination according to Marie Claire, and the People's Choice Award (2.000 euro).<\/p>\n

The international jury consists of  Dr. Helen Pheby: Curator, Yorkshire Sculpture Park and Co-curator of the Kyiv Sculpture Project 2012 (Great Britain); MukhailReva: sculptor, Meritorious Artist of Ukraine, Professor of International Architecture at the Academy of Ukraine (Ukraine); Melissa Hamnett: Curator of Sculpture, the Victoria and Albert Museum (Great Britain); Sui Jianguo: sculptor and participant in the Special Project 2012 (China) and Kateryna Taylor: Curator, Kyiv Sculpture Project 2012 (Ukraine).<\/p>\n

The Special Project presented by Yorkshire Sculpture Park. “The sculptures in the YSP Special Project have been chosen to represent some of the best examples of international contemporary sculpture. They are a balance of figurative and abstract work, by male and female artists from different countries.” says Dr. Helen Pheby. For the first time ever works by Eva Rothschild (Ireland), Magdalena Abakanowicz (Poland), Sui Jianguo (China), Nigel Hall (Great Britain), and JaumePlensa (Spain) are exhibited in Ukraine.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
